Re: [BackpackingLight] Wood Gas Stoves

 

I use a version of Ray Garlington's Woodgas Stove.  It's extremely efficient, runs on a small handful of pencil thick sticks, and mine burns nearly smoke and soot free.  The only modification I need to make is to add some form of texture (hacksawing slots, etc) to the coat hanger pieces I used for the pot stand portion, since if the ground's not exactly level, the pot may slide off.  Info on that one is here:

The only downside to the stove that I know of is that it's a single batch stove, so once it burns out, you have to load in a new batch of sticks and relight.  Mine burns constant for about 20 minutes, so it's not a big deal for me since I'm usually making meals that just require boiling of water.
