RE: [BackpackingLight] Re: 2 person Tents

Jerry,
Yeah, barter is the oldest form of getting something. It still
works. Like you, I do about the same.
Ahh well....Tents are one of those items. I must have a
dozen of them kicking around here. Several I have given away.
Tarps, I like to make....everything I buy is always heavier. Soo,
going cheap here seems to save some weight. A couple lengths
of material, sewn together, then seamed with nylon loops.
Usually, silnylon can be had in a couple widths. 5' 4",3'9".
(Actual, the width varies.)  The newer cuben fiber looks real
good...maybe this winter....
My latest "kick" has been the Warmlite. But, I find it longer
than I need. At ~2#8(40oz), it is a good UL tent. But also pricy,
about the same as the Bibler.  The 2XCS would have been a
better choice, and weighs a couple ounces less, I think.
Look at:

The Refuge X is the lightest tent for the space, I have seen.
You still need trekking poles, but he does offer carbon poles.
        My thoughts only . . .

Oh, I had the same attitude when I paid for gear. I still pay for gear if I really want it and want it *now*.

My all time favorite stove/pot set up cost $30 and that was for the ti mug. My favorite gravity feed filter I made myself. I don't have to have the most expensive, just the best I can get. Sometimes they are the same and sometimes they aren't.

I wanted a custom tent because I couldn't find one I liked for the situation I was going to be in. A friend of mine is a tent designer and wanted a light table for sorting his slides. My other hobby is woodworking. He got his table and I got my tent.

I did the same thing with a pack and work on the interior a friend's RV. He makes packs.

I always was imaginative in how to get what I want......   =o)
