[BackpackingLight] Re: 2 person Tents

Hi Greg very good points on weekend trip i could go cheap. But when it comes to an extended trip i believe that my life is depended on my equipment. For me anyway what price is there when some piece of equipment brake down on you and you cant fix it, I hope for the best but plan for the worst.Am looking long term for all the gear that am getting. Hope to pass to my kid as I pass on to the next trek in the sky. With this group help am learning to go with what works for me
(picking your guys knowledge)and caring a little weight as possible.
Thanks every one for your input. ~ Ed

Some backpacking gear will last a lifetime if you take care of it. If I go out only 10 nights a year, but do that over the next 20 years, that's 200 nights in the new bag. If I'm looking at a bag for $200 versus another for $300 and I really like the $300 one (but the $200 would do), I try to look at it from a cost per trip perspective. Looked at this way, the cost of the first bag is $1.00 per trip; the second $1.50 per trip. Is the more expensive bag worth the extra 50 cents per trip to me? The answer is easy--hell yes, the expensive bag is worth only 50 cents more per trip!
