Re: [BackpackingLight] Esbit vs Alcohol Stoves

My 3 issues with esbit are:

1) Don't like the residue on pot.
2) Can't put a simmer ring on it to slow cook.
3) Hard to lite.

I use a Caldera cook system.  I can boil my 2 cups water for meal, put simmer ring on and
steam cook 3 muffins for 15+ minutes using only 30 ml of fuel. (1 oz).  Works great for me.

Looking for thoughts/opinions on the pros and cons of Esbit vs Alcohol stoves. Tried Esbit cubes and it seems to be a matter of starting them on fire and they burn really hot for 13+/- minutes. Seems good enough for me -- what does alcohol get you?

Also, any tips/tricks on acquiring Esbit/alcohol if getting to the trailhead involves commercial air travel.

Apologies if all of this info is readily available via Google.
