[BackpackingLight] Yellowstone Natl Park--Ease of getting permit for backcountry camping

I plan on kayak camping on Shoshone Lake and out of Grant Village (Yellowstone Lake)--to the east around Flat Mountain Arm. My trip is planned for about Aug 4-Aug 15.

I'm worried that if I send in the permit request *TODAY*, it will not get back to me before I leave. Since the confirmation is needed in-hand to exchange for a real permit at the permitting office, I may be stuck. (I am up there and my permit confimation is setting in my mail box at home.)

Alternatively, I could walk into the permitting office a day or so before my planned camp trip and attempt to get the campsites I want.

Any suggestions on how to do Plan A (send for a permit today) or Plan B (walk-in and request my permits in a couple weeks.)

Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

Keith
