Re: [BackpackingLight] Making a sleeping quilt

Hey Ken,

I have a quick link for a pretty easy way to swing the arc's for making a cone but I am lazy and have not looked locally for the Ti sheeting. I knew titanium goat had it but I sort of wanted heavier stock than they sold. IIRC they had 5 thousandths stock and I was thinking 15 or 20k" stock.  I have a friend with a metal shop here in town and he might have a "drop" some place in the back. I just need to drop in and see and or ask where to get some.

Thanks though. Basically I am so jazzed about going to WY in Sept/Oct I can't think of anything else ! Ferris Mtn. feels like home to me. Maybe not after I live in a tent there for a month or so but so far it feels like home !

Hi Pat
I made my own Cone from aluminum before I made the Ti one.
A software program, online, gave me a pattern.
Ti sheet is available from

What pot do you want to make a cone for?
I have cones for MSR .85 L kettle & Snow Peak 1400 Ti pot.
The one for the SP pot is made by Russ at Trail Designs. It has a much better joint at the seam than I can make without a die and press.

Anything else I can offer, let me know.

As I hike in warmer and warmer weather the quilt idea interests me also. As far as Esbits go , I am a convert to them. I do sort of like taking a few boils worth of alcohol and then Esbits as backup or just the go to from there out. I can't tell you how much I like having gone to a Caldera Cone with both ! Down side is that until I build my own for a different pot I am down to one "pot" 600ml Ti Mug till I get in gear and find some local Ti sheeting and make my own home built Caldera kit for something else. Smell factor on Esbit takes a little getting used to or learning to just avoid all together.
