You can do the High Sierra Trail, using camp sites with bear boxes, all the way to crabtree meadows, in the high sierra. We did that trail for 7 years. A good 4 day hike would be to go to Upper Hamilton Lake (get there by day 2, day hike to Kaweah Gap, camp again Upper Hamilton Lake), walk back to Crescent Meadows day 4 (takes 2 days to get there, only 1 day to go back downhill). Or last part of day 3, hike back to Bearpaw Meadows, then day 4 back to Crescent Meadows. Super beautiful hike without bear cannister. First night we stayed at Bear Creek Canyon, 2 miles short of Bearpaw Meadows. There is a bearbox there. Bearpaw at 11 miles is a little rough to get to first day as you are doing quite a bit uphill.
