Re: [BackpackingLight] Freeze dried Meals

As mentioned eating from the packaging eliminates cleanup water except to swirl your spoon around in the evenings hot drink to get it a little cleaner. I never understood changing out the MH bag for a freezer bag?? Pop the top on the MH pack before you pack it and get all the air out but leave it in the bag. It has a nice stand up bottom on it and in the end you might be adding less to the landfills by a small amount. I would love to see MH go to the packaging Enertia has but I have not had an Enertia dinner I really liked yet. MH chicken ala king on the other hand  mmmmmmmmmmm . I will agree you can put something together on your own that is better for you and sized to your liking if you do home made meals in a freezer bag. The other idea is you can get #10 cans of MH meals and use a home vaccuum sealer to customize your eats for a big trip.

I just wanted to get a few opinions on using Mountain House (or similar) freeze dried meals on the trail? I was thinking I could repackage them and then vacuum seal to save some weight as well.
I figured If I'm carrying a pot to boil water, why do i need the packaging to eat from.

Thanks
